Music and The Power of Healing
Many of our students come to us because they want to learn to play the guitar. The guitar is an instrument with unlimited possibilities and the best part is the price and the fact that you can carry it to parties, events, to church, etc. With the correct gig bag, guitar can go with you the same way your backpack does.
I once read that Bruce Springsteen use to sleep with his guitar, I used to do the same. Guitars can be an emotional support for you. The way I see it, you feel down (we all do sometimes), you write a song about it, you sing it, and you feel better, plus you have a nice song.
Over the years I had the privilege to teach many children with emotional problems, ranging from parents going into divorce to the ones with addictions and emotional disorders. It wasn't easy, but I was able to create o connection between their identity and their guitar. Guitars are the best friends. They listen to you and always have a nice melody to give you, if you know what your are doing.
I also had students with autism, learning disabilities, and even taught groups of special education in public schools. It was a new experience to walk into the room and see their faces smiling just because I was there, the music guy. I have the ability to make songs out of nothing, so I would create new song with things they were related to.
Music changes lives. With our without musical 'ear,' our Foundation teaches all of those that want to learn. Do you know somebody that want to learn? If so, let us know. We may be able to help. Click here to contact us.
